Key takeaways

Two entry points

AI Assist button on empty chapters, or the AI button in the left sidebar.

Describe the chapter

Topic, key points, anything you want covered.

Pick a length, Generate

Brief, standard, detailed, or comprehensive.

Steps

On an empty chapter, click the purple "AI Assist" button in the centre of the editor. On any chapter with content, click the AI button (sparkle icon) in the left sidebar instead. Either opens the same panel.

Describe what the chapter should cover, pick a length (brief, standard, detailed, comprehensive), and hit Generate. You get a full draft in seconds. Tone is auto-matched to your book's genre.

How to rewrite selected text with AI

Highlight any passage, open AI Assist, tap a chip or type an instruction. Apply or undo.

1 min read · Updated 2026-05-13

Key takeaways

Select the text

Highlight any sentence or paragraph.

AI button → opens in rewrite mode

Selection shows in the "Rewriting:" strip at the top.

Tap a chip or type a prompt

Six one-click starting points, or write your own.

Steps

Highlight the sentence or paragraph you want changed, then click the AI button in the left sidebar. The "Rewrite with AI" dialog opens with a "Rewriting: “...”" strip at the top so you can see exactly what will be rewritten.

Pick a one-click chip under "Or pick a starting point", or type your own instruction in the textarea (e.g. "make it more vivid", "shorter and punchier", "match a teen reader's voice"). Click Rewrite. When the result appears, click Apply to replace your selection.

The six quick chips

  • Make it clearer and more concise
  • Shorter and punchier
  • Tighten the prose
  • Add a concrete example
  • More conversational tone
  • Fix grammar and flow

Wrong mode?

If you wanted to continue writing instead of rewriting, click "Continue instead" on the right of the "Rewriting:" strip. It drops the selection and switches to continue-from-cursor mode without closing the dialog.

How to continue writing where you left off

Cursor at the end of your last paragraph, AI Assist, tap "Continue writing from where I left off".

1 min read · Updated 2026-05-13

Key takeaways

Place your cursor

At the end of where you stopped.

Open AI Assist

AI button in the left sidebar. Make sure no text is selected.

Tap the Continue chip

Or type your own instruction.

Steps

Place your cursor at the end of your last paragraph (no text selected, otherwise AI Assist opens in rewrite mode). Click the AI button in the left sidebar. With the chapter not empty, AI Assist shows quick prompt chips. Tap "Continue writing from where I left off" (or "Continue the scene from where I left off" if you are in a fiction book). Or type your own instruction like "add another example" or "build tension here". Click Generate.

AI uses the chapter content as context so the new paragraph reads in your voice. Generate as many times as you like until one fits.

Accidentally in rewrite mode?

If you opened AI Assist with text selected, it enters rewrite mode and shows a "Rewriting:" strip at the top. Click "Continue instead" on the right of that strip to drop the selection and switch to continue-from-cursor mode.

How to change the tone of AI output

Tone is driven by your book's genre. Change genre for the whole book, or rewrite individual passages in a new tone.

2 min read · Updated 2026-05-13

Key takeaways

Whole book

Tone is auto-derived from the book's genre. Change it in Settings.

Single passage

Highlight text and use AI Assist rewrite for a different tone on that paragraph.

Four base tones

storytelling, professional, educational, friendly. Auto-picked from genre.

Whole-book tone: change the genre

AI writes in a tone that matches your book's genre. There is no separate tone dropdown; the genre you picked when you created the book drives it.

  1. Open the book in the editor.
  2. Click the Settings (gear) icon in the left sidebar.
  3. Change the Genre dropdown to the one that fits the voice you want. The field hint reads "Controls AI assistant tone and output style".
  4. Click Save. Future AI generations on this book will use the new tone.

How genre maps to tone

The mapping AI uses behind the scenes:

  • storytelling: Fiction, Kids Fiction, True Crime, Biography. Narrative, scenic prose.
  • professional: Business, Marketing, Technical Guide. Clean, authoritative.
  • educational: Cookbook, Study Guide, Lesson Plan, How-To Guide. Instructional, step-by-step.
  • friendly: every other genre (default). Warm, conversational.

Tone for a single passage

To restyle just one paragraph (e.g. make a section punchier or more conversational without changing the whole book), highlight it and open AI Assist. Because text is selected, AI Assist opens in rewrite mode.

  • Quick chips: "More conversational tone", "Tighten the prose", "Shorter and punchier", and others (varies by genre).
  • Custom prompt: type any instruction, e.g. "make it more formal", "warmer voice", "drier and more academic".

How to fix grammar with AI

One-click fix via the "Fix grammar and flow" chip, or type your own instruction.

1 min read · Updated 2026-05-13

Key takeaways

Highlight the rough text

Any paragraph that needs a clean-up.

Open AI Assist

AI button in the left sidebar. It opens in rewrite mode.

Tap "Fix grammar and flow"

Or type your own instruction.

Steps

Highlight the paragraph (or sentence) you want cleaned up, then click the AI button in the left sidebar. Because text is selected, AI Assist opens in rewrite mode with a "Rewriting: ..." strip showing what will change.

Tap the "Fix grammar and flow" quick chip (no typing needed) or write your own (e.g. "fix grammar and punctuation, keep my voice"). Click Rewrite. Compare the original to the rewrite and click Apply to replace the selection. Especially handy after voice dictation or if English is not your first language.
